BNN News - Week of Mar 10th, 2025

Bloom KKCA Academy

Hello and welcome back to another week of BNN News. My name is Jacob. And my name is Anya. And here is your news for this week.

Literacy Month continues this week with many fun and educational activities organized by Mrs. Gibbs. Students were visited by more authors, and engaged in reading, writing, and language activities, exploring new words and expressions in creative ways.

Even our very own Vice-Principal, Ms. Peilin, joined in on the fun and led a number of activities. Did you know that Ms. Peilin is an award-winning author? She has published books on Chinese poetry. I will make sure to check them out.

This week, Grade 1 students went on a field trip to learn how pizza is made. This event connects to our Literacy Month by teaching students new words related to cooking while learning about ingredients, measurements, and the steps of making a delicious pizza.

In Grade 4, students have been learning African rhythms and drumming with Ms. Serena. Through this unit, students applied their understanding of rhythms to explore new cultures through music, connecting patterns, timing and teamwork in a fun, interactive way.

Over at Saint to Bloom Academy Grade 7 students in Ms. Boey and Mr. Erdogan’s entrepreneurship class had their final presentations for their Green and Sustainable Fashion unit. This was the culmination of months of learning about sustainability, design and ethical business practices in the fashion industry, with students designing custom T-shirts to sell for charity and support SDGs. Great job to all students who presented their ideas and made an impact.

In Grade 6 art class students have been working on printmaking with Ms Lainey. They have been learning how to create unique designs through layering textures and printing techniques, bringing their art to life in a whole new way.

And this week's top story is Forest School. Students spent three days this week immersed in outdoor learning, with Grades 4 to 6 staying overnight and grades 1 to 3 participating in multiple day trips. They took part in hiking, kayaking and other outdoor adventures, building teamwork, sportsmanship and communication skills while getting out of their comfort zones to learn in nature.

Students had an amazing time challenging themselves, working together and making memories along the way.

That is it for another week of BNN News. Thank you for watching, and we will see you again next week. Bye bye.
